  • Hello. My Roku works everywhere in my house except the one on my son’s tv in his bedroom. Thing is, we had a storm the other night, so the power went out for only a few minutes. Then when power came back on, all the other tv’s were working except my son’s ever since. I mean, this is recent. What’s the problem? How come my son’s isn’t working right now?

      Hi jbask53

We’d like to take a closer look at your concern. Could you provide the model of your Roku device and describe the exact behavior of the issue you're experiencing?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

jbask53  A power surge from power coming back on or even flickering can fry electronics, especially if no surge protection is on the device, meaning a good quality surge protector or a whole house surge to help prevent those things.  Even with a quality surge protector there is no guarantee that it will prevent a surge from damaging electronics.  I have had something similar happen in the past with some of my electronics and I have a whole house surge and surge protectors on specific things to help prevent it.

A couple years ago, I added outlets with brownout protection that when a power outage happens, it keeps the power off for an additional 4 minutes or so to prevent the surge from happening when power comes back, so I suggest checking into those as well as surge protectors if you don't have them.

You could try plugging the TV in another outlet or try a different power cord.  Hopefully that helps, but it unfortunately could be a surge did some damage.
