Roku device issues

Does anyone know of a good service. Something like Roku, but that actually works? Meaning, a service I don't have to factory reset once a week because it's so useless. Also should mention. Anything that actually employs human beings you can talk to is always a plus.

  • Roku is really more of a device than a service.  There are others: AppleTV, FireTV, Nvidea Shield...  computers in general... Raspberry Pie...  I'll mention though that I've never factory reset a Roku in 9 years of use, so whatever is going on with yours might not be as common as you think.

If you want to talk to some humans about something specific about Roku, then you might create another thread where the subject line captures the general problem and the message body describes it in as much detail as you can.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Device is what I meant. I've had nothing but problems with it since buying my first one last year. Also I don't love the idea Roku doesn't have phone customer service. I just ordered the NVIDIA box based on the reviews I've seen and read. I switched from the awful Xfinity Flexbox to Roku assuming they'd be better.

Since you've gone through 2 Wi-Fi devices and they've been "awful", I would say that if the Nvidia fails as well, then it's time to consider that the Wi-Fi or Internet might be the culprit.  Admittedly I'm guessing as to what the "awful" means, but a streaming gadget does need a dependable connection, and where you've placed them could also be a bad spot.

  • I think its important to compare apples to apples..the Flex box is garbage and isn't anywhere near the level of Roku..that said, its important you state the exact model, firmware version, type of connectivity (wired/wireless) and how its connected (direct to TV, AVR, etc). As to connectivity, the leading issue with wireless is channel congestion. I have a suspicion you're using Xfinity gateway, aka modem/router combo and the channel selections are being done with the default 'auto' setting. This can be a major problem and the best way to alleviate it, is though installing WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar for iPhone. When you open the app look at the channel graph. where you'll see how many others are using the same channel. Then you'll need to find out how to log into the gateway, disable the auto channel selection feature and select a channel with less congestion. The star icons on the app rate channel strength making it easy to choose one with less congestion

Here just to agree with your frustration on the lack of efficient support and the punting of issues with no accountability, no evidence of progress to (in my current experience) the dozens of complainers regarding our same shared issue, and what may as well be NO FIX for a relatively new model ROKU. Feels like a bunch of BS when you have nothing to turn to but a community forum to hope you get actual helpful solutions; something besides empty promises and snark.
