Roku Channel / Live TV shows black screen on play anything

  •  Hello, omega332. Welcome to the roku....hotmesss. As, I think, as you just described, I haven't been able see any roku streaming channel for 3-4 months now,...all other apps.Sling, YouTube,...work. Been following multiple threads on this forum, only to see them wither and die , just keep scrolling back and you will find them. This forum is pretty poor on keeping  'hot', 'similar' topics currant Check back in a few days, you're post will be 3-4 pages back ,...and someone else with same sort of problem will be asking for help also (tell me you're system. connection, what do you see.....)  Seen many multiple of responses of users responding, with few successes, ......think this a roku problem. Using my tv now as a 'gateway' to ota channels, and other streaming channels...... everything roku (and there are other problems) are a still a issue.  Good Luck.

Thank you for sharing it here!

I understand that your Roku TV screen goes black when you access Roku Live TV. Please follow these steps:

    1. Press Home on your Roku remote
    2. Scroll down and select Settings
    3. Select System
    4. Select Power. If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step
    5. Select System restart

  • I have unplugged the system and my TV and even restart all affected devices even my internet radio. I am still greeted by the blackscreen on my roku live.

This does not provide solution. I thinking of switching to other TV and dump roku tv.

      Hi BOLAGLOVER,

Thanks for reaching us here in the Roku Community, and welcome!

We see that you're getting a black screen when accessing the Live TV on The Roku Channel. We're here to help.

Could you tell us if this is an issue only on the Live TV section or if it also applies to the on-demand shows on the channel?

In addition, try connecting your device to any alternative network like a mobile hotspot, and then try again to see if that makes a difference.

Or let us know more about this so that we can further assist you.

      Regards,
      Rey

  • ;( I have the same problem.....looking at the other comments it seems that it is a common problem and a Roku issue.  The response from Roku is just as bad as the service because it does not solve anything - it is not an "internet" issue as I am able to stream, (without issue) Netflix etc.  I can see the guide and select a channel but then - as you described - it just goes "black" - almost as though the TV has been turned off.

Try using a mobile hotspot (if available to you) as your network connection for the RokuTV.  If the Roku Channel is able to stream properly (no black screen), then likely just an ISP (internet service provider) issue.

If streams properly via hotspot, try changing your DNS servers in your router to the public DNS servers of Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) for troubleshooting, then restart the router, and see if the Roku Channel streams properly again.

Thanks for your suggestion but unfortunately this does not work - I tried the hotspot but same result.  Very annoying because I can stream netflix etc and I can actually "see" the channels - but when I try to select one the problem begins.  I purchased this TV because it is in a room where I do not have a sky box or TV aerial.....so now have to look for another solution to stream 😞 given the number of issues being reported on this I would definitely not recommend this TV with Roku integrated.

  • My Roku tv has started to do this also.  Screen goes black when trying to look at Roku live tv channels. Netflix etc still work
