REMOVE recommended for you on roku home screen

Roku's horrible Recommendations row nightmare first started messing with my life around November 24, 2023. It just suddenly appeared on my Home screen. I didn't ask for it and didn't want it... and there was no simple, intuitive way to remove it.

Roku eventually granted us the freedom to fix this nasty "feature" by going to Settings > Home Screen > Recommendation Rows and clicking the Hide option. This worked until two days ago, when the dreaded Recommendations row suddenly reappeared on my Home screen and I had to hide it again.

What the what??? Hours of my life have melted away. I'll never get them back. Any trust I once had for Roku is shattered. No wonder Roku stock is tanking.

But it gets worse. The Wall Street Journal published a story today (April 12, 2024) entitled "Roku Says Hackers Gained Access to 576,000 Accounts in Latest Data-Breach Incident." I wish I had never purchased a Roku device. The torture never stops.

Adding to the chorus. PLEASE REMOVE. at least there should be a parental control option because my kids don't watch the same things I do. Really really annoying.

The recommended is showing x rated material right on the home screen.

I have multiple roku devices that have shown this recommendation now. 

Please remove this feature as my roku is showing my underaged children nude women....

Yeah, I’m going to have to second that this **bleep** sucks. I will never buy another Roku. Keep this **bleep** up. I recommend them to all my family members: “all things bad. “🤮

Roku has added an app on the home screen row called live tv guide.  i have seen this on more than one device.  this was another FORCED addition.  NOBODY I KNOW HAS ASKED FOR IT OR WANTS IT.  there is now also ads under the text menu.  you can remove the live tv guide by pressing the * button and remove from the menu.  obviously roku is NOT LISTENING or learning from their continued mistakes.  I removed my roku device last night permanently and it will NEVER be used again.  Put a section in the text menu for new stuff.  Let people CHOOSE to look.  

Sad what this company is doing.  I understand advertising but there's a wrong way to do it and roku is writing that book all over!!!!

My kids are seeing the horror thumbnails and having nightmares. Very upset with this new recommended home screen. 

Happy to see there us now a way to disable that **bleep**. Another owner of roku devices making it known that they are on the thinnest of ice. Pisses me off that you pay for something but don't really own it. There are alternatives.

This behaviour shows the utter contempt and disdain that Roku has for it's customers.

Honestly just leave us alone, let us lock down our config that works.

Stop spying on what we watch on Netflix and sharing that data with no opt out option (breach of GDPR), stop adding shi-ite we do not want, need and did not ask for. 

Stop forcing updates that damage our Roku, you have gone from a product I recommended to a product I give warnings about.  Joining this forum has shown me you sell a bunch of other products like video doorbells, but with the lack of privacy and this presumption that you know better than us along with your tendency to cattle prod us into doing what YOU want rather than what we want, means I will not go near those products.

I suppose the writing was on the wall when you took members onto your board of directors who were buying OEM versions of Roku products, soon after you disabled side loadlng.  Fine you chose your side, you will now be tolerated but I for one and looking for alternatives while I can still get a good price for my Roku kit, I have four of your devices. 

It has got to a stage where I would rather have some cheap Chinese tat that I know the CCP probably monitor but they do not share my data with 400+ data agencies who then go on to share it with companies that make decisions about me, such as "this one is a mug do not offer them a good price".

I sincerely don't think you guys regret anything. Stop stop stop putting porn videos on popular free shows. You know people have kids and families. They don't need to see this **bleep**. Take it off.
