Remote works only with ROKU TVs, not external ROKU streaming boxes

Almost a year ago, I bought six (6) Roku remotes.  I specifically checked that they could be used if my main remote (that came with my ROKU Ultras - I bought 6 for my family members and friends) will work.  I was told they do, and can be even "paired" with the existing remote to ensure backup in case one is lost or damaged.

I just found out to my dismay -- based on the box for these six remotes -- that they DO NOT work with ROKU streamers.  They only work with ROKU TVs.

I am very disappointed that I was misled by the website that sold me these now useless remotes.  I am wondering if ROKU will accept a return -- none of them have been used yet, but some have been opened and tried without success.

Would be grateful if someone from ROKU can officially respond.

    I'm not a Roku employee, but the web site is quite clear that TV remotes are for TVs, not players. It appears you purchased the basic IR remote, and the web site lists player and TV remotes completely separate. I doubt Roku will accept a return after so much time has passed. But we can ask a Roku moderator to respond here. This new forum software won't let me tag one of them, so I just hope they see this post and respond.

      Thank you very much for your guidance.  I now recall that it was in fact an advertising email that was sent to me by ROKU.  In it, there was no warning or explanation that it only worked on Roku TVs.

      I am hoping someone there can at least trade my remaining 4 units still in the box with the ones for ROKU players.  They have the record of my purchase.
