Remote won’t connect, device isn’t connected to wifi

I recently got a new used tv and was hoping to use my old Roku device with it. I plugged the Roku streaming stick+ into my tv and the Roku screen came on, but the remote wasn’t working with it and says it is not connected on the top right. I assumed it was the batteries, so I replaced the batteries. However, now the remote isn’t connected to the Roku device and my device isn’t connected to my wifi. I don’t know to connect my device to my wifi without a remote, or the remote to the device without a wifi connection. Can anyone help?
