Remote volume and mute suddenly stopped working.

I have the battery remote that came with the Roku. It has been fine for years and now the three buttons on the side for volume and mute buttons stopped working. I changed the batteries shut off for 15mins, re paired the remote and checked settings. Nothing is correcting this. I see many have had this same issue. What is the solution your IT team has figured out?
