Remote not working unless 1 foot away

My SS+4K remote only works with my LG G4 when I am one foot away, but the ROKU phone app controls it fine.  Any suggestions?

    Let's set up your Roku remote once again as a troubleshooting step.

    Follow the instructions below to pair your Roku remote.

    1. Press and hold the pairing/Back and Home buttons of the remote for 20 seconds to reset your Roku remote.
    2. Set your Roku device to pairing mode by unplugging it to the power outlet for 15 seconds.
    3. Press and hold the pairing/Back and Home buttons of the remote for 5 seconds to pair your Roku remote.
    4. Wait for the pairing prompt on your screen.
