Remote freezes constantly have to open up battery and reclose

I'm having the exact same issue - sometimes taking battery out and putting back doesnt resolve.  The remote will work very intermittently until I repair it.  But next time I turn off and back on my TV it does the same thing.

My Roku is powered by the USB on the TV.  It is being used in my RV and I don't want to use power from the battery when the TV is not on so prefer to keep it that way.

When you turn your TV on, if it comes up still showing the HDMI port to which your Roku is attached, see if switching the TV to a different input and back to force the TV and Roku to do a new HDMI "handshake" makes any difference.

If that helps, try getting in the habit of switching the TV to a different input before turning it off.
