Remote Control Battery Pop Up

I have an "issue" on my Ultra that has started in the last few days. In the upper right corner of the screen, it pops up the words "Remote Control?" and displays the battery charge. It pops it up there at what appears to be random times. Sometimes its 30 seconds or so apart then it stops for awhile. If I have the voice control button set to off, it starts popping up the "hands free voice is off" message instead. It's very distracting.

How do I fix it?

    Hi, Community users!

    Greetings from the Roku Community.

We're happy to announce that the frequent low-battery notifications you might have been seeing with your Roku voice remote have likely been fixed.

If you're still experiencing this issue, however, don't hesitate to:

    • Start a new thread: If the problem persists, create a new post in the Roku Community forums for further assistance.
    • Send a private message: Feel free to send me a private message (PM) if you'd prefer more personalized help.

Troubleshooting Tips (in case you still need them):

Check and confirm your Roku voice remote's battery:

    1. Press the Home button on your Roku voice remote.
    2. Navigate to Settings.
    3. Select Remotes & devices.
    4. Choose Remotes and then select your remote (You may have multiple remotes paired: Voice Remote, Voice Remote Pro, etc).
    5. Select About to view the battery level.

If the battery is below 15%, we recommend replacing or recharging it.

If you've confirmed the battery level is sufficient but continue to see low battery notifications, please follow these steps:

    Restart your remote

    • If your rechargeable voice remote has a pairing button, press and hold the pairing button on the back of the remote for 20 seconds.

    • If your rechargeable voice remote doesn't have a pairing button, press and hold the Back and Home buttons on the Roku remote for 20 seconds.

    • Disable any extra remotes that are not in use in your TV settings.

    To disable a remote:

    • For AAA/AA battery remotes: Remove the batteries.
    • For rechargeable remotes: Press and hold Back, Home, and Mute for 5 seconds to power it off.

Monitor if the frequent notifications persist after disabling extra remotes.

    To re-enable a disabled remote:

    • For AAA/AA battery remotes: Reinstall the batteries.
    • Repair remote: For rechargeable remotes with a pairing button, hold it for 5 seconds. Otherwise, press and hold Back and Home for 5 seconds before re-pairing if necessary.

  • Not only is the remote control indicator popping up every minute, it's reducing the battery life as well as affecting performance. Any button I push, there is a noticeable pause and then it performs whatever action I push several times. Very frustrating. I've tried resetting the unit and repairing the remote. I think the remote is stuck in pairing mode as the green pairing light keeps flashing. Since the remote is a rechargeable, changing the batteries is not an option. Any suggestions welcome!

        Mary,

The problem is continuing. My rechargeable remote is continuously pairing creating the on screen notification as well as draining the battery. Thank goodness it's rechargeable since I have recharge it every day. If I don't plug it in at night, it will be dead in the morning even though the system is powered down. I am still having performance issues as when it is repairing, there is a pause in responding to my selections.

I do not have any other Roku remote paired to this system.  I have tried removing and repairing with no resolution of the problem.

        Very frustrated!

  • I bought this remote maybe two weeks ago and am already having the same problem. It would be nice to not be “sent” to support, but rather you post a public update with a fix, either technically or monetarily. I paid almost $40 for a remote that has essentially un- usable after two weeks.

It seems as though the remote is being pulled every 5 seconds or so by the ruku device via the wi-fi. This looks like a code update issue why would a remote report it's battery level if it fine or is something more sinister going on? Did you know the ruku device powers itself back on at will.

    Update

    Hi All Frustrated Users!,

Well, I decided to try again with a new 'Battery operated" remote and also ensured that I totally removed the old rechargeable unit out of range from the TV and "Walla", this a has resolved my remote/screen notices problems. I can only assume that the issue remains with the rechargeable remotes. I do however hope that Roku continues to research this problem and reissues a new improved version of the chargeable remote.

    Happy Viewing!

    George

  • How to fix it

    Plug the remote into power.

Hold down the pairing button for 20 seconds (during holding down the remote light will start to flash. Keep holding and at the 20-second mark the light will turn off. The remote will then restart)

Welcome, and thank you for posting here in the Roku Community, mrmikemartin!

I appreciate you reporting the issue you've encountered with the battery notification, which has prompted your screen. No worries! I'd be happy to assist you with this.

Firstly, is this the remote that comes with your Roku Express 4K+? Also, how many remotes are currently paired to this device? You can check this under Settings > Remotes & devices > Remotes > Remove the remotes you don't currently use.

In the meantime, I suggest resetting your Roku remote by pressing and holding the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. After doing so, pair it again to see if the notification will still pop up.

Furthermore, I appreciate the complete details you have provided; rest assured that I will forward this to the appropriate Roku team so that your device can be included in the investigation.

I look forward to your update regarding the troubleshooting steps I have provided.

        Best regards,

  • I want an answer to this as well. Remote control keeps popping up on the right hand corner and Roku won't respond?

I see this issue has been poste on several times but no resolve has been posted.

I have the Roku Express 4k and I'm getting the remote battery power icon displaying on my screen constantly in the upper right corner. Is there a way to turn it off? It's very annoying and distracting.

I had remotes, and now a 3rd because I thought something was wrong with one of my remotes but it's still happening. I also noticed the when I try to remove a remote, the power notification pops up and then the remote re-appears in the list. It just won't go away.

I have gone as far as resetting my Roku Express 4k after powering off and re-pairing my remotes.

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community, chagerty8!

Please be informed that the team is currently investigating the Battery notification that is randomly popping up on your TV screen.

If you are experiencing the same issue, I suggest resetting your remote by pressing and holding the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. After doing so, pair it again to see if this will help resolve the pop-up notification.

If the issue persists, kindly provide me with the specific Roku player this remote is connected to. If this remote was purchased separately, kindly let me know if this is a Roku Voice Remote 1st or 2nd generation so I can include your device in the investigation and correction process. Perhaps the Device ID of it would do. (Settings > System > About)

I'll be looking forward to your response.

      Best regards,
      Carly
