Remote connection isn’t working

just got roku stick from friend and remote that’s not bluetooth connected, the inferno red light works inside the remote but i can’t get remote to work, got new batteries and have held the back and home button wile fire stick turning on but still nothing!

    What's the model number written on the stick?  Did it come with a remote or did you get one separately?  Sticks don't work with "simple" remotes.
