Problem with Samsung Smart TV and Roku Ultra

For over a year an elderly relative has been using her Roku remote from her Roku Ultra paired to a Samsung DU8000 series.  After having to reconnect the TV and Roku player last night, the Roku remote won’t work to get into the Roku app from her TV Home Screen.  The remote has been re-paired twice and still no luck.  The remote will turn the TV off and on but if I’m on the TV Home Screen, using the Roku remote will only operate the Roku app in the little box on the TV Home Screen, it will not open the Roku app on the TV. Does anyone have any guidance?   I’ve tried 2 different Roku remotes and 2 different Roku players with the same result.

  • Typically a Roku remote controls power, volume up/down and mute on a TV.  Choosing an input is usually done with the TV remote.

If you like HDMI-CEC, that can be another option.  Make sure 1-touch play is activated on the Roku, and AnyNet+ is activated on the Samsung, and pressing Roku buttons such as home should send an HDMI-CEC signal to the TV.  if it's not working, look for an option like "refresh" under the Anynet+ settings on the TV.

    Hey there! TaxChick12

We noticed that your Roku remote is no longer responding after reconnecting your Roku Ultra, and we'd like to take a look.

Could you share what type of Roku remote you have? Sending a photo would help. Also, have you tried unplugging the Roku Ultra for several seconds, then plugging it back in to restart the device?

Let us know when you can!
