To be fair you're the one who chose to leave the automatic updates turned on. Every company now has so many different models and combinations of hardware and software that these kind of issues are inevitable.
Perhaps, but how can one avoid the auto update when a factory reset is done? Most manufacturers implement a "Day 0" update where it's assumed you just purchased the product, unboxed it and it's day 0 of ownership so they pull an update to ensure that the OS is patched and any bugs are repaired. Only after that time, will the end user (us) be allowed to turn that function off.
Prior to the first reset we had to do, we were stuck on the 12.x Roku Version and resigned to the fact that we may never get it. That was until our hands were forced due to the first random boot loop thing which mandated the invoking of the reset button on the side of the unit. Only after then, were we given the OS 13.x update. So, while I slightly agree with your statement with the it's the user's fault to automatically allow the auto updates to happen, I don't agree that we are completely at fault.
I haven't brought this up as we haven't been able to predict or recreate it, but it randomly reboots the TV when we switch input. Because it's so random, I can't report it and provide the steps to reproduce so Roku could look into the software build. But, it's started to happen increasingly more than just a rare reboot.
