Photo stream limits

We like to use the photo stream app to display pictures. Previously, when I used Apple TV, I could point to a folder, and that folder would be used for the pictures being displayed.       I upload several hundred photos to use the Roku photo stream, which works well except that the number of photos is limited (maybe to 100). Roku does support direct access from Google Photos, but that also seems limited.

We really like using our Roku devices and have several. Is this limit true for all Roku models? Do you have any other ideas or suggestions?

TIA

  • Hey, Mabrydozier

    Thanks for posting!

I understand you wanted to upload more photos to the photo stream, but it is limited to only 100 photos.

Roku's photo stream limits photos displayed across devices. You can create up to 10 albums in your Backdrops Roku account, upload 20 photos at a time, and hold a maximum of 1000 photos in each album. However, if you've exceeded your device's storage limit, an album may not reach 100 photos. Visit this support link for more info

  • This is a really frustrating limitation that seems some coding could easily resolve. I have loaded 349 pictures into a Stream after reading somewhere you could have 1000. I now understand (after going through thousands of pictures to pick the best ones), that the 1000 likely came from 10 streams of 100 photos in each. However, I DO have 349 photos in a single stream. I can see them in my account. The problem arises when the Photo Stream app will only play a fraction of them (and it seems much fewer than 100). Some times after a reboot, it seems to get more, but eventually it seems to rotate through 20-30 of the same photos.

Can the limitations be made more customer-friendly?

If not, can I "move" some of my 349 photos to new streams, or do I have to go through the upload them 20 at a time again while paging through 1000s of photos to find them again.

Please tell me there is a simpler way to get a potentially great feature working on par with competitors.

    Thanks, Brad

We understand your concern with Photo Streams, and the team is still currently investigating this.

Could you share the following info below so we can check yours too?

      • Roku device model, Device ID, Serial Number, and Software version (It can be found in Settings > System > About)
      • Tracker ID (Press Home five times, then press Back button five times)

      We'll wait for your response!
