Onn Roku 70' TV Black Screen, what to do?

We have done the unplug from the TV, unplug from the wall, checked all cables, soft reset & factory reset several times over the last 4 months. Today the TV just won't do anything but show a black screen. Initially we could hear the channels but no picture, now nothing. We made this purchase 11/27/2020, today is 9/7/2023- less than 3 years old -is this normal? TV is set up in our living room and football season is upon us "GO BILLS". Do I just need to bite the bullet and purchase a name brand?

  • Hi Reimburse,

We understand and acknowledge your concern regarding your ONN Roku TV.

Could you confirm if you have already performed a hard reset on your TV by locating the reset button at the back and pressing and holding it until the TV restarts? If you did and the issue is persistent, this may be a sign of a hardware issue.

With this, we would recommend reaching out to your TV manufacturer. You can refer to this link to directly contact support for your Roku TV.

We hope this gets sorted out soon. Let us know if you have further inquiries.

    Best regards,

  • UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know, we did purchase the extended warranty from Walmart when we purchased the TV, they had told me we did not but I looked in my emails and there it was. Of course, this was after we took the TV to a repair center where it cost $212.06 to replace the power supply/LED drive board.

I've spoken with Onn, advised to take it to a "u break, we fix" shop. It's a 70 inch TV- SMH. I'm going shopping this weekend to purchase a new TV and running as far away from Onn Roku as I possibly can. Less than 3 years and it's a piece of **bleep**!!! Don't think I'll even look at Roku again.

We had the same problem but our TV isn’t even 2 years old. Called tech support and they did their steps then said they can’t fix it. ONN brand will never be purchased by me again and I will tell everyone I know that this brand is absolute TRASH!!!

  • I have the same issue today my tv just when black. I can hear everything but can’t see nothing I have only two years with it… I turn off the lights of from my living rooms and took my phone and use my flashlight to see if I can see anything to me it seem it could be the backlight need to be replaced. It’s not even far cuz I really don’t use the tv like that and I only have two years

Have you tried unplugging the Roku TV for 10–15 minutes and then plugging it back in to see if the issue is still occurring?

Please keep us posted on what you find out, and we can assist you further.

      All the best,

Done “ALL” troubleshooting steps and ideas and it still don’t work! Started about a month after warranty ran out. Fixed income can’t afford a new one but my better sense told me not to buy an Onn Tv when I did but trying to save a dollar and get screwed by somebody who has a bunch. Going in trash and will try save for a new one and start reading more.

  • A family member bought this for christmas 2022 for a baby's room with one yr warranty.  Literally less than a month after the warranty expires the tv goes black.  Only used maybe 1 or 2 times a month.  I talked to ONN customer service. 1. Couldnt understand a single thing she was saying. 2. Did all the resets and troubleshooting 3. Told me the warranty expired 20 days ago and i am s*** out of luck.  Never ever buy an ONN tv is all i can say.  Mine lasted 1 yr and 24 days and was hardly ever turned on.  Piece of junk

  • I had the same issue, I did all the things that were suggested and still had the issue. I finally factory reset the audio and picture settings and it didn't do that again. Once I changed the picture settings for gaming it turned black within a minute. I reset the picture setting and haven't had that happen.

I hope this helps you out too.

08/17/2024 UPDATE: I started having the black screen again and I did the whole factory reset on the t.v. and still happened I did figure out that it would only happen on the HDR mode so I set the picture brightness to darker and it's been staying on. Fingers cross that I don't have the issue later.

Hi. How do I reset the settings if the screen is black? I can't see a thing on screen.

As an aside. If this is a common issue, which it appears to be, this TV should be recalled. After 2 years we should not have to buy another television for an issue with how it was made. Highly disappointed!

        Press home button 5 times

        press up arrow once

        press rewind twice

        fast forward twice

( make sure you here the sound buttons make while being pressed )

it should go thru reset cycle and screen may blink a couple of times. Takes approx 3 - 4 minutes. Sometimes works, sometimes not. Usually have to turn mine on/ off about 50 times before screen comes back on.

  • Ours just did the same thing at the 2 year mark. Didn't even try customer support after reading how terrible they are. I tried everything including taking the whole thing apart so I could clean and reseat every connection inside. I checked the boards for signs of damage or overloading and everything looks like new. I finally resigned to the fact that it's not coming back. Picking up a new TV tomorrow 😡
