No sound when using AirPlay

When I attempt to mirror my iPhone or iPad using AirPlay the video works fine, but there is no audio. I'm using a Roku Express 3900X. I have the same issue with iPhone or iPad. I can cast from my W...

    We appreciate you for sharing this information with us, and we'd like to know more about how we can assist and resolve this. Kindly provide us with the following:

    • Mobile device model and iOS version.
    • Roku streaming device information such as serial number, device id, and model number. (All these can be found in Settings > System > About)

Hey JellyBelly.  I’m so glad this sound leveling adjustment solved your problem.  Will you tell me how you did it?  I tried but nothing happened.  Do you need to restart Airplay for it to kick in or do something else?  Since this worked for you and gbstanton, I figure I must be doing something wrong.  I marvel that Roku can’t/won't solve this obvious and longstanding problem when their own customers have found the solution.

    Try this: 

    1. Play any content on Roku. It can be using a native Roku app or content from your Apple device through Airplay. (Recommend doing it while using Airplay so you know immediately if it worked or not. That's what I did.)

    2. While the content is playing, press the * key on your Roku remote

    3. Go to Volume Mode and select off

    That's it. It fixed the soud immediately.

    This procedure does get the sound working on Roku using AirPlay.  I did a little more experimenting. 

    1) Turn leveling off, sound comes back on. Actually, just cycle  the Volume Mode menu (on,night,off) and press * button and you can leave leveling on.

    2) Next commercial interruption, sound does not play after the commercial ends (using NBC Nightly News) 

    3) Turn leveling off again, sound comes back.

    This is definitely tied to the transition back to the content video.  I don’t really want to leave my sound leveling off.

    Well, I am unable to get this sound leveling off solution to work for me.  So frustrating!  I've tried it several times and have left the sound leveling to the off position.  But, no sound.  Sure wish I could figure it out as you did.
