No DVD working with Roku tv.

Newer DVD players using hdmi only says “No Signal (is it on?)”.  I have done this:

 tried different cords

 tried different ports 

 confirmed ports were set up in settings

 cycled everything off, unplugged, started over

 used a totally different DVD player and did all of the above again

The ports not working for DVD players do work for other connections (satellite box).  

So why will it not recognize any DVD player?
