No Connection every 15 minutes

Hello,

I have multiple Roku streaming sticks in 2 houses. Over the last 2 months out of nowhere they have started losing connection about every 15-20 mins.  I’ve done all of the restarting, checking connection, removing apps and reinstalling and it continues to disconnect.  I’ve disconnected my modem multiple times to reset the WiFi.  After sitting for about 5 mins after it disconnects it reconnects itself.  Why is this happening out of nowhere after owning the devices for over a year with no issues?  How do I fix this?  Thanks.

  • Hi Spence43,

Welcome to the Roku Community, and thanks for posting here.

We'd like to assist you with this, and we'll be gathering some more information. May we know what specific Roku device are you having issues with?

For the time being, we recommend performing a system restart on your Roku device. To do this, go to Settings > System > Power (skip if no sub-menu) > System Restart. Additionally, it's also recommended to restart your router/modem.

After performing the recommended troubleshooting steps, kindly observe if you notice any improvements. Please let us know how it goes.

    All the best,
    Kash

  • Hello bebe464.
    We hope you're doing well.

We just want to follow up on this concern. May we ask if you have another Roku device besides the one that you have provided on this thread that performs the same issue? Also, have you already tried connecting your device to an alternative network, such as a mobile hotspot, just to check if it will hold a connection?

    Please keep us informed.

    Thanks,
    Janadee

  • This is literally my roku tv in the living room as we speak or rather as I type!!! My son has had this problem for months now and now its finally hit the living room tv. We can no longer use our tvs without internet dropping and remote lagging freezing. I have a whole new modem and router i just got two days ago thinking that would help and it didnt, Ive reset the tv unplugged it, nothing fixes this issue. My house has 5 roku tvs and it looks like slowly they are all going down hill. sad so sad that customer service keeps pointing the finger at internet providers instead of owning it and fixing the darn problem. Roku USED to be amazing, now its nothing but stress and a waste of money.

      Hello,

I don’t mean to sound rude but I’m not seeing how that is a “solution”. This is happening on 4 Roku sticks located in 2 different homes so it’s not even the same network.  Furthermore I also have fire sticks with no issues.
I have done all troubleshooting tips on the website with the issue continuing.  If the fix is to use a mobile Hot spot then I’ll just get rid of Roku and get fire sticks.

        Hi antarena,

Thanks for updating us here in the Roku Community!

How far is your Roku device from your network router? Are you getting any error messages or error codes when trying to play a content? Please be advised that the reason we suggest you try an alternative network, such as a mobile hotspot, is for you to test if it's happening with a hotspot too.

Let us know how it goes, and we will be happy to assist you further.

        Kind regards,

        Eunice

      Hi Spence43.
Would you mind giving more detail? Not all suggestions work for every Roku device. I want to help you as best I can and you providing the device (i.e. Stick+, Stick4K) and ISP connection (gateway, router, cube) would help.

      Spence43,

Just wanted to ask an additional question if you made some changes to your network recently would it be possible to revert back?

      Please keep us posted!

      Regards,

      Rey

I have an RCA Roku TV that’s at least 3 years old that just started doing this about a week ago. When I try to update software I get error 004. Using my phone’s hot spot does not fix the issue.
