New Roku Remote - turns TV off, but not on.

I have a Roku stick. I bought a replacement Roku remote.

I'm able to control all the apps and maneuver around. I'm able to change the volume. I am able to turn the TV off. But, I'm NOT able to turn the TV ON.

I try to link the TV through the remote settings. The sound comes on, but it doesn't turn off during any of the 11 presets. 

My previous remote, which is physically defective, still turns the TV on/off. 

I'm lost.

    Hi, I lost my roku stick remote control, Where did you buy your replacement? If you don’t mind me asking. Thank you

      You buy them separately  at Walmart or Best Buy, it's cheaper at Walmart.
