Navigation Buttons Not Working

My power button and volume buttons work, but the rest of the buttons don't. They did 24 hours ago. How do I fix this?

      My remote is less than 6 months old and I have to press it MANY times to get it to work. The rest of the remove buttons and functions work fine. Is replacing the remote the only fix for this? How many remotes do people generally buy in a year?is this a quality issue? Thanks
