My remote wont connect to my roku device

I just bought a Roku Streaming Stick (3800 series) # direct from roku for somebody else and the remote will not connect to it but it will connect to other roku devices that i have. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

    Are you using the USB cable that came with it with the Wi-Fi receiver embedded in it?  The remote won't work without that cable or if that cable is bad.
