Issues pairing a remote, taking the tab out too early

Setting up my Roku Express 4K+, I took the battery tab out too early because I falsely assumed I needed it to turn the stick on. Now the screen won’t let me get past the “Pair your remote” screen even though I have a working remote. I tried to take the batteries in and out and hit the home and back button simultaneously, but because the Roku stick is on a Roku TV (I got the stick because the TV didn’t have Apple TV), it doesn’t work. Does anyone have anyway to get past the pair your remote screen or to let me pair my remote?
