Intermittent black screen while streaming

I have an older TCL and the thing has been an absolute champ. But today, the screen started going black ever 4-5 seconds for about a second then it comes back. Sound still plays. Only does it during streaming. Home screen is fine and antennae TV is fine. Connected wireles with a strong signal.

Reset internet

Reset internet connection

Made sure apps and system updated

Unplugged and cycled power

Only thing I didn't do was a full reset which I would like to avoid.

  • Just today when I tried to watch something on the PBS app all I got was sound and no picture.  Tried Paramount, same thing.  Netflix is working fine as is MAX.  All screens look good, showing all apps and programs within apps, but when I select a program to play on PBS or Paramount I get a black screen with sound.  It was working fine last night.  What could the problem be? I might add that I can open these apps on my iPad and I get a picture.

  • My TCL Roku TV has no picture. When I turn it on I can hear the sound of whatever show happens to be playing but there is no picture. Just a completely black screen. I tried unplugging everything and then replugging it all but I still get no picture. Help!

      Hi SelectiveMemory,

      Greetings from the Roku Community!

We appreciate the troubleshooting steps that you have taken so far.

We recommend reaching out to TCL's support directly and inquiring further about support. TCL manufactures Roku TV, which provides direct support with its TV models since it only uses Roku as its operating system.

You can reach them at TCL Support

Hoping this will be sorted out soon.

      Thanks,
      The Roku Community Team

  • hi im experiencing the same issues. everything works fine and then I pick a show on any one of my apps and it goes black with sound remaining. it works fine when I cast a YouTube or show onto it. it goes back to black though if i connect my device and stream it. it was my mother's tv who passed away now so im sure I don't have a warranty and I've gone through all the many steps and suggestions and nothings changed. I will just use it for casting until I can buy a different brand tv. I honestly feel like roku isn't being transparent with this obvious software issue. it's a guess and an uneducated one but I think it's a virus.

  • My TV Hisense Roku 75 inch has a black screen whenever I try to turn it on. I cant get the screen to display anything. I also used a flashlight and did the backlight test and the backlight doesnt seem to be the problem. Is there a way to fix this issue?
