If you don't have a working remote, it won't move past that screen. A Roku stand-alone device and its remote won't control the Roku tv. But if this Roku device's remote has a pairing button in the battery compartment you could try pairing it to the Roku tv instead of the Roku device.

Yes, but it doesn't have to be Roku tv remote, a universal or cable oem remote with proper tv code would work too. Do you have any old Directv or cable remotes laying around?
