How to stop remote from endlessly scrolling

Whenever I use the remote to scroll it just continue scrolling and doesn't stop, even when I take the batteries out.  it doesn't matter what screen I'm on it just keeps on doing it. Is there any way someone has any information on how I can get this to stop?

  • I am using Roku Express. When I turn on TV, the Roku menu is keep scrolling without touching remote, and not responding to remote.
I checked my remote and there is no stuck button.
I disconnected the power for a while and reconnected, didn’t change.
I tried system update, system reset, neither of them worked.
    Changed battery, no change.
Tried to control with remote in the phone app, but didn’t work.

How can I solve this problem?

I am having the same issue; can you post the fix to this vs continuing to have people private message to fix it?  Obviously this is an issue for multiple people.

That’s what I was thinking. Tell us the fix. Having same issue. Maybe time to upgrade to AppleTV units and get rid of the 3 Roku boxes we have.

        Hi Danny

I'm having the same issue with my simple Roku remote, it scrolls continually and I can't make it stop to watch anything. This is a fairly new device so I'm surprised it's no longer working. SN# S008308A4NPH

        thanks for your help,

Have you tried restarting the device?
Settings > System > System restart

These things are just little special purpose computers. Like their big brothers sometimes you just need to clear things out by restarting them.

I am having the same problem. When I click a button to turn on the tv and get to the menu it is just scrolling and won’t stop. We have tried new batteries and rebooting the device.

  • My roku is scrolling non stop. I have unplugged it, reset it and I've checked the other remotes and changed batteries. When I reset and it has the pick language screen all it does is scroll fast. I'm not sure what to do next....

I am also having problems with scrolling and have restarted my system and replaced the batteries and the problem is the same. I am also currently having a problem sending you a message when I go into your profile and go up to your picture it just loads and doesnt show me anything.

  • During initial setup trying to input email address.  Upon push of a left or right or up or down.  The selection scrolls to the end.

I have removed batteries, cold boot of all, taken batteries out of other remotes in the area.

It could be from another remote hidden under  cushion or some other type of device like a baby monitor? Stand in front at different angles to see if you can block the interference.

I read previous replies as such.  I have removed batteries from other remotes and i have shielded the remote from any sunlight with no luck.

  • I am having this same issue with the scrolling. Is there a solution?

Yes, check out all replies here by Tivoburkee; I was able to manipulate my TV remote to make it stop.

  • My remote is continuously down scrolling and I have changed the batteries, restarted the device, as well as looked to make sure the buttons on the remote aren’t stuck. Not sure what else to do…

Take the batteries out, then try aggressively working the remote buttons. Might be something sticking in there you can't see.

I'm assuming that when the batteries are removed, the Roku does not scroll. Have you tried using the Roku app on a phone or tablet? It might not be the best long term solution, but you could at least confirm it's the remote itself that has the problem.

You didn't state what model Roku you have, but it might be simpler to just replace the remote. For all Roku players other than the Streaming Stick models, you can get an inexpensive universal IR remote from many stores for under $10. Just make sure they list Roku players as supported devices. If it's a Roku Stick, then it depends on the model you have if a remote is even available. But the Stick players all use WiFi Direct remotes, and don't support IR at all. If your Roku Stick is model 3600 or newer, the $20 replacement remote will work fine. Again, those are available in most stores that sell Roku products, such as Best Buy. But make sure what model Roku you have before buying a replacement remote.

It is an express 3900. And I have attempted, still scrolling. It also does not scroll if it is not facing the device or the front of the remote is blocked/covered.

When reporting problems it's always a good idea to report your Roku model and model number as shown via Settings > System > About. Often the answers you seek depend on your Roku model and if we have this information to start with, you can get targeted suggestions more quickly.  This can be especially important for remote issues, as different models take different types of remotes.

Does it continue to scroll when you take the batteries of out of the remote?  If it does, the problem lies elsewhere.  Perhaps another remote in the room, maybe stuck between cushions or under a book with the down arrow being pressed?

The only time I've experienced this it was with a Roku TV and a restart of the Roku fixed it.  These things are just little special purpose computers. Like their big brothers sometimes clearing things out by restarting them is all it needs.

Restart via Roku menu path Settings > System > System restart (Or for Roku TV: Settings > System > Power > System restart - just turning the tv off/on doesn't give a full restart)

If a restart doesn't do it, or if you don't have sufficient control with the remote to navigate the Roku menus, you can also restart by pulling the power plug to the device for a minute or so then plugging it back in.

I can't access settings because the menu scrolls constantly. And there doesn't appear to have a settings option on the website. There is not interference, as I've said many times.

  • Please someone tell me how to make it stop scrolling inputs! I have reset the system and it keeps going back to scrolling inputs and turns on and off.

      Thanks for the post.

Have you tried removing the batteries from your remote to see if the scrolling stops?

In addition, can you please provide the Roku model and serial number on your Roku device? I'll be able to assist you further from there.

      Thanks,
      Danny

  • I've only had this tv for less than a week and it started scrolling, quickly on it's own. The remote isn't in the same room and resetting the tv to the factory settings didn't help.
