Headphone mode not working

Hi, having problem with headphone mode connecting using my phone as the remote. Used to work, haven't tried in a while and when I do, headphone symbol comes on and volume goes off from tv but no sound from earbuds. After a minute or so headphone mode goes off. My devices are Streaming Stick+. Three of them, all same problem. Earbuds are paired. Un-installed and reinstalled app. Thanks for any assistance

  • It's great to have you here, westmike!

I totally get that you can't hear any audio when using the headphones mode on the Roku Mobile App, and I'm here to help!

Here are a few things we can check!

    • Confirm that the volume is not muted or too low to hear.
    • When using wired headphones, check that they are firmly plugged in.
    • When using Bluetooth headphones for mobile Headset Mode, confirm that they are paired and connected to your phone or table. For help, visit the website of the manufacturer of your mobile device and/or headphones or contact them directly.
    • When using Bluetooth headphones paired directly to supported Roku devices, confirm they are paired and connected from the Settings menu.
    • If you have more than one Roku device, be sure to use the remote for the correct device. With mobile Headphone Mode, go to the Devices page (in the Roku mobile app) and make sure you are connected to the correct device.

  • Hi All, has this issue been resolved? I have the same issue. It only happens on one phone. All others it works fine. Actually, everything works fine up until I plug in the headphones. Thanks!!

Same issue here. When I switch it to headphone mode and then go back to the remote, it doesn’t switch (no change to the headphone icon). And then I go back and the Headphone Mode switch is back in the off position. Does it only hold in the off position if the volume is up? Because if that’s the case, you need to change that, because it’s a PITA.

I turned the phone off and on several times, rebooted the network, deleted the app and reinstalled it, all the usual tests, and it still doesn’t switch unless the volume is up. That makes ZERO sense.

  • Same problem everything was working great until 3 days ago it just stopped no sound! I am using the remote app on my cell phone it connects, pairs, headphone mode lights up tv speakers stop and no sound through my earbuds , I didn't due anything differnt than I have been doing for months! Any new ideas? Believe me I have tried all the old

      Hello

Currently when I try the mobile app, it shows "No Network Connection". Roku devices connected to TV's in my house work fine, able to watch all streaming apps no problem. Problem seems to solely from Roku mobile app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and saw no difference

        Thanks for the update, westmike!

We can try isolating the issue by installing the app on another mobile device; if you have an extra device, we can try it and see if the issue persists. Also, what brand/model of the mobile device is the Roku app with an issue currently installed?

        Please keep us posted!

  • I am having the exact same problem with my Roku Express.  I'm using wired headphones connected to my iPhone.  they are working fine when listening to music so that isn't the problem.  the headphone icon on the remote lights up when pushed and the TV Volume cuts out.. but nothing through the headphones. after a short while, the headphone icon dims and TV volume restores.  All i can think of is that this headphone mode doesn't work with the inexpensive Roku Express?

      Thanks for replying, Reader01085981!

You mentioned that you're using Earbuds. Quick-question, will the headphones mode work if you do not use the Earbuds and just directly let the sound come out to the phone's or mobile's speaker?

      Please keep us posted!

No, not when I am using the app! The sound mutes on the tv does not come through my cell phone. i see the headphnone symbol on my tv, earbuds say connected. My earbuds work with my phone and my computer just not with the TV any more. I have uninstalled ,reset network,, unplugged my router. Shame because it has been perfect for a long time!

  • Not looking for help just an FYI sound on my app stopped working again about five days ago!
