HDCP error on Roku 3

So I've been getting an HDCP error on my Roku 3 (2013). I've tried rebooting it, unplugging and replugging the HDMI cable, and unplugging the Roku entirely. what's the issue? The app I'm using is called Playlet (An ad-free YouTube client) It's running Roku OS 14.5 and using the HDMI cable that came with my Samsung monitor.

Try using another HDMI port on your Samsung monitor if available. (or even different HDMI cable).

On some Samsung TVs, it has been previously reported that using certain HDMI ports was required to avoid this error with streaming devices (perhaps also an issue with their monitors?).

If still an issue, can always place a HDMI splitter in between Roku device and monitor that will resolve this issue. (U9 ViewHD on Amazon).   This is useful when hardware won't cooperate with the HDCP protection scheme.

I use Playlet on my Roku devices and haven't seen any HDCP errors. (don't have a Roku3 though to test on).  Playlet was an invidious-reliant/based app originally, but evolved and still uses a distinct/separate API than Youtube for its frontend so likely not an app-related issue.  Kind of thinking more a hardware/firmware issue between the Roku and Samsung components. (especially if seeing on different apps and different screens).

Can always ask over at Playlet's Github page https://github.com/iBicha/playlet/issues. (the developer iBicha is quite responsive there and may be able to give you more detailed info).

  • Is it only that app? I mean it's version 0.39 of an unofficial app that strips ads out of an ad-paid service, so it wouldn't surprise me if it had some problems now and then.  (Including the ad-paid service trying to mess with it!)

YouTube app too and at one point it would show up after selecting a channel in the home menu for a few seconds
