You should be able to use only the Voice Remote, but they can be a pain to pair. My method is to only connect the power to the TV/Roku device after the pairing button on the remote is flashing and to make sure the batteries are new/fresh.

I'm back and I'm happy to report that it indeed does work! After the TV restarted I unplugged it, waited 10 seconds, held the pairing button on the remote till it started flashing, plugged the TV back in and shortly after the initial setup screen showed up a little window showed it was pairing to the Voice Remote. Awesome!
Now that I have some piece of mind I hope this helps someone else that got themselves somehow in the same predicament. Many thanks, renojim!

What if you don't have another remote? Please help
DesperateBinger, if you factory reset your TV you need a remote, period. Either one from the manufacturer (TCL, Hisense, etc.), a Roku voice remote, or a universal remote that supports Roku TVs.
