Does Roku Premiere stop working after a certain amount of time?

My internet speed is excellent. However, I’m having a lot of issues watching streaming services like Netflix and Peacock through Roku on my TV. I constantly have to restart. On the Roku system screen it says my internet speed is excellent but my download speed is poor. I googled what that could mean and it said possibly an issue with my router and that the firmware needs an update. Before trying that I was curious how streaming would be from my laptop and it was totally fine. This demonstrates there is no internet issue whatsoever correct?

I bought my Roku Premiere 3920 series in 2019. Is it time for a replacement?
  • My 3920 has always been my worst device as far as Wi-Fi reception.  They seem to be prone to overheating which may have something to do with it.  I took mine out of its case and that improved things.  Some have also opened theirs up and replaced the heat sink compound.  If it feels pretty hot, that may be the problem, but you might want to try different Wi-Fi channels (it only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channels 1 to 11).

If you don't want to fool with it, to be honest, I'd say you got your money's worth out of it.

Thank you! This is validating to hear. My Roku does feel very hot. I'm not tech savvy so I don't know how to try different WiFi channels and I'd be nervous to play around with it. I dislike how Roku claimed poor download speed because that caused me to think it was my WiFi instead of their device, so I'm glad I tested streaming on my laptop. Thanks again, this is enough validation that it's time for me to replace my device. I welcome any recommendations.

Heat tends to be the enemy of devices and can affect wireless capabilities.  It could mean that the device is failing, if it is overheating, but before getting a new one, I would suggest try putting some type of small fan nearby to see if you can cool it down and see if you notice any difference.
