Connecting app remote to tv, original remote broken so i cant connect it to wifi, cant find device

I am just setting up the roku plug in directly to the hdmi on my TV however the original remote does not work so I have to use the app as a remote, and that cannot find the device so I'm stuck on the set up page. Not sure how to get my phone connected so that I can set up since it won't find the device, can't use original remote and if I can't get it connected to wifi then I can't find the device to connect it.

    You can't use the app until it's connected to your network/Wi-Fi, so you'll need a working remote.  What's happening with the remote?  What's the model number of the Roku device written on it somewhere?
