Comparison of the Roku Streaming Stick and the Streaming Stick Plus.

Hi all,

I am deciding between the new Roku streaming stick and the streaming Stick plus.

If I have a full HD tv, which one should I buy?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Audio will be the same with either choice, though my personal preference is use of an AVR which offers Dolby Digital surround formats which you won't get if you use the TV speakers. I'd recommend the Plus to future proof. With 4K TV's at affordable prices, you'll benefit greatly by upgrading..As individuals, preferences vary from one to another

  • Hi jontalk, thanks for your answer. My tv is a Samsung UE43J5500AK which is a smart tv, Full HD (1080p) with HDMI ports.
The streaming stick Plus is 4K & HDR whereas the streaming stick is not.
If I get the Plus, will I still get better picture and audio or would that be limited by the TV resolution?

  • Most all TV's today are 4K/UHD rather than HD (1080p) and as a result, current Roku models support both, though 4K delivers far higher performance. I'm going to assume your TV has HDMI and if not, both sticks require it. That said, the Plus model is going to deliver the best picture and audio, though my personal preference is the Roku Ultra since it offers Ethernet as well as wireless. I'm a long time Roku user and have found wired connections superior to wireless
