Cannot enter email address on TV screen to activate ROKU Premier

I am unable to enter my email address into the ROKU activation screen portion. I do not have a smart TV; therefore this TV or remote doesn't have the capability to enter any letters to complete this. I am logged in on the ROKU website though. This was purchased for an elderly relative to enjoy. No question that they cannot afford to buy a new TV. Any suggestions for this. Thanks

  • I am having the same problem.  No keyboard is popping up onscreen for me to use the Roku remote to enter my e-mail address.  Only difference is I am trying to activate my Roku ULTRA.  What to do?!

      Thanks for the post.

      As stated in my previous post, have you tried pressing the OK button on your remote? Customers have all reported that pressing the OK brought up the keyboard for them during the activation process.

        Since there seems to be a problem with folks being able to figure out how to enter their email, it's a UI problem. I suggest adding the language 'press the okay button to bring up the text menu.'

  • Anything you did with a TV remote wouldn't effect it anyway.  You enter your email address using the Roku remote.  Use the selection keys to move around the on-screen keyboard.

      To add, there seems to be no way to use my roku remote to enter an email address. Please advise.

  • I reset using the paper clip. It returned me to the email screen but still won’t allow me to enter my email address.

      I’ve tried pressing the buttons dozens of times. It doesn’t work.

        Can you please provide more information about the issue you are experiencing? What Roku model device are you using? Have you tried pressing the directional buttons or the OK button on our remote to see if it will prompt you with the keyboard to enter your email address? Have you tried replacing the batteries in your remote?

      I am stuck on screen asking for my email address to get a Roku activation link, but remote does not connect me to a keypad to be able to type in email address.  This is a remote for Roku Express; I've pressed every button and arrow keys available, buy t nothing happens.  My TV is a LG 4N5300.  What can I do besides purchasing a new TV which I cannot afford.  Please HELP!

  • I need to put my e-mail address on the screen so I can get a Roku activation link to start streaming. And my remote won't let me go anywhere other then that page.

        Pressing the OK button on the remote brought up the keyboard, allowing me to enter. Why is this not in the instructions???

      How to I start activation since it makes a beep trying to enter my email address but never gets there?

        Hello rhenkle

        Thanks for your first post in the Roku Community. 

        Have you tried pressing OK on your remote? This is a way to reveal the on-screen keyboard. Once you have the on-screen keyboard, using your remote, type a valid email address and select Continue. If you have a voice remote, you can press and hold the voice microphone icon button and say your email address instead.

  • I am installing at the moment and have, or had, the same problem. After trying everything I could think of I looked for the problem online and came upon this thread. When I went back to my TV the problem had solved itself! Hitting enter took me to a data entry screen and in no time I received an email from Roku and was able to complete setup.

  • Had the same problem.  Wait a few minutes on the email screen and then push OK. It will advance to a keyboard to type in an email.  If it doesn’t work, wait longer.

      I’ve been waiting for 30 minutes. Still can’t move the curser with my remote. Keyboard is showing but can’t use it

        scornell, it seems like there have been several reports of the remote failing during the setup.  Try new batteries in the remote.  It may help to know the model number of your Roku device written on it somewhere.
