I can only offer my preferred method of pairing:
- Disconnect the power from the stick
- Press and hold the pairing button until the light starts flashing
- Set the remote down close to the stick
- Connect the power to the stick and let it do its thing
A couple of other notes: If you're not using the supplied USB power adapter, use it. Don't use rechargeable batteries to try to pair the remote. I've had problems with rechargeable and/or cheap batteries getting through the pairing process, but they're fine once it's paired.
