Are You Still Watching? - How can I stream longer than 4 hours on Roku TV?

I bought a Roku TV.  However, we sleep with the tv on.  The Roku and all apps beg the question “Are you still watching?” after 4 hours.  When it shuts off.. I wake up.  How do I disable this feature?

Youtube seems to be the only app that doesn’t do this.  I’m wanting to stream ATTNow, Prime, or Netflix.  Please help.

Settings > Network > Bandwidth saver
    Off

This doesn't work. I have the bandwidth saver turned off on 2 tvs and it still asks every 4 hours. It's frustrating because I leave my TV on all night. I'd just like it to stay running unless I tell it to stop.

Jpierce71This thread has a long history, 8 pages. The only answers on how you can supposedly correct this has only been answered by "Home Experts" I have since moved on to "FIRE" due to this issue. I loved my Roku but the problem was never corrected. Good Luck!

What model Roku, and what firmware version? Don't just say latest, because not all devices have the same firmware version.

  • Is the annoying message, "Are you still watching?", Roku-originated, or does it arrive via a particular streaming channel? Perhaps it comes from somewhere else? Can someone shed some light on this inquiry? Thanks!

  • Great question! I, too, would like a solution to this issue.

This was a feature that was just added because of so many people complaining about excessive bandwidth usage because the stream didn't auto-stop. It was mostly because people would turn their TV off with the Roku still playing, mistakenly thinking the playback stops if the TV is off. That only happens with a Roku TV, not any players (nor any other brand for that matter).

It would be nice to be able to disable it, and perhaps they can add such a switch in the future. For now, there's no way to disable it.

EDIT: I was incorrect that it cannot be disabled. See the accepted answer for more detail.

Thats interesting. I vote for the "Are you still watching" thing with an option to turn it off.
So what are we supposed to do when we turn the TV off??? Go to the Home screen first???
And I suppose if we switch to watch something on another HDMI port it keeps streaming.
I thought the Roku somehow knew. I dont really care because I have bandwidth coming out of my derriere. But this is interesting.

  • Love the new bandwidth saver feature. But it doesn’t seem to work at all with Philo. It works well on other apps/channels as far as I can tell. I can set a sleep timer on the tv, but the next day Philo is still streaming.

edit: thanks to whomever fixed it, it’s working now

  • We like to binge watch.  However, after a certain amount of time, our tv will put up a menu on the bottom of our tv with a 15 second count down.  If we are not quick enough, it will put our Roku back to the main screen.  How do I turn that feature off?  Thank you in advance.

I discovered a Roku channel that stays on indefinitely! It's Tubi. I just click on something in a category listed and it is still going when I get home 10+ hours later. So my parrots get to watch cartoons all day instead of being bored after the first 4 hours when YouTube shuts off 😃

  • The solutions don’t make any difference. I have bandwidth saver turned off and it still keeps asking me if, “I’m Still Watching”. That’s the least of my irritations.
I am so completely pissed off that I bought a Roku TV. It’s a nightmare of never ending nonsense.

If you read all through this thread, you will see that it isn't Roku asking you if you are still watching. It is the channel you have on. Netflix does it, YouTube does it, and lots of others. That is why having the bandwidth saver off doesn't help. Tubi will stay on without asking, though. So leave that channel on.

  • Go to settings, scroll down to screen idle, click to turn off the idle mode
