Activation process stuck on sign-on page

After much frustration with bouncing logo screen problems, I finally figured out the factory reset and updated my stick.  When I got to the page to enter my email address, I hit the microphone and said "W".  It spun "Thinking..." for a long time, then it changed to this below.   Now it is just stuck here.  Can't navigate anywhere.  I even removed the stick and re-inserted.  Comes back to this page:

Do I have to factory reset all over again?   That was a pain.   This is a 3800X.

    Hey there, Wb4

You mentioned the activation screen wants an email, but it won’t do anything when you attempt to enter the email. Sorry for the trouble.

Quick try: pull the power of the TV to the outlet and unplug the Roku device again for 15–20 seconds, plug them back in, then do the activation and enter your email manually.

Let us know how it goes!

an overnight cycle cleared out the cobwebs.   I tried again today and it allowed me to resume the activation process.  There was a lag for my remote to kick in which was unsettling, but fortunately it did.  I did NOT use the microphone to enter letters.  That seemed to be broken yesterday and I did not want to risk it again today.

Really annoyed that I had to do a factory reset in the first place!!!   Reading all these other threads it seems that this is not uncommon for updates to screw up the system.  You need to improve your SOFTWARE QUALITY CONTROL!! Do more testing before you release updates or let people opt-out of automatic updates, especially older players that might be more vulnerable to lack of adequate testing.

If all my player details were stored on your servers (channels, settings, logins (encrypted) etc.) it could have been an easier process to factory reset... kind of like getting a new Android phone... google has all the info and a new phone is almost seamless.

also, fwiw your suggestion was not helpful.   Of course, a power cycle was done.  multiple times.    And to suggest the TV needed a power cycle shows your inability to comprehend the problem.  I can see in these forums that the suggestions are widely not helpful.  Hopefully I will remember that next time if there is a next time.

The system is still very glitchy.   Whatever caused the initial stuck problem is still there.   The inability to navigate on the activation page is similar to other "freezes" I am still running into in random places.    Looks like the update really ruined my system.    Removed SOLVED .

The title should be:  Factory Reset not resolving broken system

    • As I was moving apps around, I selected Netflix (rather than moving it) and I got a half screen (no Netflix Logo) with a sign-up/get-started choice but NEITHER could be selected!!
    • Another time I tried to remove an app and it said I had no connection even though I had just watched a YouTube video.   But worse, I could not navigate away from that page

      The DONE button was dead.

    • There were a couple of other similar bad results that I didn't save details about.  I think even returning to the time-out screensaver page was a problem... i couldn't click OK or Home.  Had to re-boot system.

Here is the system page.  Is this a new build?  Usually build #s have many more elements and digits so this is probably not the right page to show latest update status.

Thanks for the extra details and the photo, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Could you share the exact behavior of your Roku device by taking a video recording of the issues that you are experiencing so that we can take a closer look and further investigate?

Let us know when you can!

That's the dumbest suggestion yet.   I said the freeze problems are random.  So once it freezes, want a video of me pressing the remote button with nothing happening???

This forum is clearly just for venting.  I can tell no real solutions will be forthcoming.  If the engineers who are involved with the updates actually had these symptoms and information, maybe they could figure out the problem.   Surely you can't.
