[14.0] Roku Ultra Bluetooth volume control not working after update

Hi,

After my Roku Ultra got updated to Roku OS 14, Bluetooth volume control is no longer working.

I could previously control the volume of my Bluetooth headphones with the volume controls on the remote, but after the update, I just get a full circle showing, where I previously saw the volume turning up or down.

I can workaround it by using the volume controls on the headphones, but that is much less convenient than using the remote.

Is this a known bug?

Cheers,
Rasmus.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but it now seems to be working great! CEC also works for my TV where it didn't before.

After the update, I am also having this issue with my Bluetooth headset. My Roku remote will not adjust the headphone volume.

I'm having the same problem as of today. I have a 4802RW Roku Ultra that is useless right now because I cannot control the volume on my Bluetooth device. This just started for me today, so I'm assuming I got an update. I need this fixed. I've re-paired my headphones, tried different headphones, physically unplugged the Roku, did the system restart. When is this supposed to be fixed? My Roku is a useless brick right now since I can't hear what I want to watch.

I have tried turning Roku on and off, turning headphones on and off, unpairing and re-pairing headphones, and connecting a second pair of headphones. Same result every time: remote volume buttons does not change volume and instead the Roku UI just shows a filled circle in the corner where the volume display previously was.

  • Brand new Roku 4850X - Ultra for Christmas. I'm on Software Version 14.0 .

Having what appears to be the same issue.

I did notice a few things, however:

    1. When I point the Roku Remote at my TV, with my JBL TuneBuds connected, the **TV** Volume responds.

    2. When I first connect my BT Headphones, the BT volume is briefly displayed.

    3. Quite by chance, I noticed that if I adjust the volume on the remote during that brief moment when the Headphones first connect, the volume controls work fine ***and continue working until I disconnect the headphones***

Having said that, I have a newer hardware. This may or may not work for you.

I ended up buying new headphones since I had $40 in Best Buy rewards. The brand is Soundcore. These are headphones, not ear buds and they work in that the Roku is allowing me to control the volume. Please note that I tried three different brands of ear buds that I always used in the past including Jlab and these headphones are still not working. I would hardly call this a fix, as it requires a person to buy new equipment, but the issue is resolved for me using this workaround. Roku- you can't really expect people to go buy new equipment to get it to work and need to revert whatever you changed back to the old way so all types of headphones and ear buds work. It's been three months now since you broke it.
