Watching the ROKU cameras from a PC/Mac

I am trying to figure out a way to monitor my roku cameras from a PC or Mac since there is not a Smart Home app for the mac desktop.   Is there an IP camera monitoring software that could be used?

Thank you in advance for the suggestions

We need a way to watch these on the PC.

Can we have a ROKU Smartt Home app for the PC (or mac)?

Would it be possible to use VLC to connect to the camera streams in the meantime?

Are there any plans to add an app for Windows PC?  I have an Android device but spend significant time on my PC.  Seems like a PC option would be a given.  Thank you.

ttill258578, what good would that do?  Some issues don't have a "solution", but they do have an answer.  Marking it as "solved" is just a way of Roku saying this issue is closed - the best answer has been given and no further discussion is necessary or beneficial (although admittedly I'm seeing "Solutions" that aren't the best answer in some cases).  "Solved" is a poor term, but no worse than "Channel" being used for apps.

If you'd like to suggest a feature there's a place for that:

Great video! The one downside I see is it requires Windows 11 for iPhone users. But seems very seamless.

that doesnt really work as its difficult to install or side load apps onto a virtual droid device and way to cumbersome.

Just hook up a roku streaming stick to a pc monitor then.  Either that or a bluestacks emulator would work just fine as well.

I can't always use the Roku app on my smartphone.  I would like to be able to use my desktop computer for monitoring the security footage or downloading footage direct to my computer.  Does Roku not have this as an option?

Yep, exactly what I mentioned earlier in this thread.  As long as you're not running hyper v, BlueStacks works just fine.  That or a Roku player to a monitor is the only way.

Additionally, many don't realize but Roku cameras are just rebranded wyze cameras with a Roku app rather than a wyze app.  Given that, I wouldn't expect a web app unless wyze creates it first.

  • There is a way to do this on pc using the Windows Subsystem for Android, WSA Tools, and obtaining the Smart home APK from APKpure
    Prerequisites:
    1. Make sure Windows Subsystem for android is installed:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/install-mobile-apps-and-the-amazon-appstore-on-windows-f8d0abb5-44ad-47d8-b9fb-ad6b1459ff6c

    2. Download and install WSA Tools form the Microsoft app store
    https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9N4P75DXL6FG

    3. Download the Roku Smart Home app from APKPure
    https://apkpure.com/roku-smart-home/com.roku.rokuhome

    Steps:
DO THIS FIRST! -  After completing the prerequisite installs, Launch WSA tools, it will prompt that ADB is not installed, this is required, so select the prompt to install it and choose the location you want the ADB installed.

After that completes, you should be presented with the option to install an APK, select that and choose the APK for Roku smart home that you downloaded, Wait for the process to complete.

Launch Roku smart home from you start menu, and sign into your roku account,

You can now view and access live streams and recording on your windows PC.

  • I use Bluestaks on my PC to view the Roku Smart app and the Wyze Camera app too. Bluestaks is an Android platform that works on the Windows system and works with numerous Android applications. Side Note: I hope this answer helps to answer your inquiry better than the clown answering you with a useless, "No". Just goes to prove they don't know what they're talking about, and therefore their replies should not be considered as valid. Just because they didn't find a solution that actually works, it doesn't mean that an alternative solution isn't available. Download and use Bluestaks for tunning Roku Smart, Wyze, and 99.99% of all Android-based applications.

Thank you. So once you download Bluestacks on your PC, is there somewhere to search for and download the Roku app? Need a more detailed walkthrough please.

You shouldn't need to use blue stacks unless you have a preference. Not sure if you can see my last post but there is a link on YT that I posted that might be able to help you out. I use it Everyday and it works seamlessly.

  • Its interesting that after several months, this issue hasnt been worked on for Roku, its not that hard or encumbersome from a software standpoint, to emulate the screen that they use for the TV to be on PC, This seems to be an issue of "lack of care" for the customers, and is a serious negative against Roku...

Roku, if you see this, fix it... i know you can. we should be able to access our cameras wherever we have internet as long as we can log into our accounts.

A warm welcome here in the Roku Community, CNFishead!

We hear you and appreciate your input. As of the moment, the Roku Smart Home app isn't compatible with computers. No worries. We'll take note of this and will let the team know, as your convenience and satisfaction are what we aim for.

Please be aware that the Roku platform is always upgrading and updating its features, so we highly appreciate your feedback.

Feel free to let us know if there's anything else you'd want us to address, and we'd be more than willing to listen and take appropriate action.

      Best regards,
      Carly

        Thank you for responding.

I sure hope your response team addresses this and puts it on the agenda.  having this capability available would really be a great feature asset for your system. Many users spend a considerable amount of time on their computer systems and ability to do basic premise surveillance in a window while working is highly desired.

  • I use blue stacks it runs pretty well on it. And if you have the 360 it will function. Just drag the screen

Somebody had mentioned ldplayer and i'd never heard of it.  I've been using it now and love it.  You can have multiple instances too and the memory/cpu utilization is nothing.  Open the camera, pin the window to the bottom of your screen and you're set.
