Smart home app does not play motion from SD

I have a CS1000X monitoring camera. During the free trial period I could play the captured recordings in motion. When the free trial ended the app only shows  captured still images and will not play motion on captures. I have no intention of paying the monthly monitoring fee. When I remove the SD card from the camera and plug it into my computer, I can play the entire scene from beginning to end in motion but the scene can only be viewed as a single stop action frame when it is plugged into the camera and I use the app. Am I doing something wrong or is Roku pulling a sleazy move here?

Well at least I'm not doing anything wrong. I do think Roku has drawn the paywall line in the wrong place though. People should be able to see what is on their SD by using the app rather than having to remove the SD. The single frame images on the app are mostly useless for determining what is on file and whether or not to remove the SD for a closer look. I think it makes Roku look sleazy for providing so little utility for the basic camera purchase price.

    Hey, Bosco21

We understand that you only get an image from your event recordings on your Roku Smart Home app after the free trial ends. Please note that this is by design.

Without a subscription, a recorded event is stored as a single image, but you can also choose to back up a video recording to a micro SD card, just like you did. To view an event recording backed up on a micro SD card, you must remove the card and connect it to your computer.

    We hope this helps.
