Subscription channel

Hello all,

Is it easy to set up a subscription channel? How is the billing integration managed/allowed?

many thanks,

L

  • AFAIK right now Roku doesn't provide subscription services. If you want to do this you need to build and support it yourself.
  • In the near future, we will offer developers the opportunity to bill for their channels, either one-time or recurring (subscription), through a Roku Billing Service. It will operate much like other Markets/App Stores/etc and require no additional code (just a couple of setting in the channel properties). Expect an email to the developer community soon with further details.

  • Hi,

RokuPatrick - do you know when, roughly? This year?

and what do you think the charge will be to use this billing system? I'm considering a recurring subscription.

    Thanks,

  • Yes Patrick when do you expect to roll this out, we have been working a few solutions but look forward to know what yours will be.

Can you give us some details? like will it be easy to working our billing etc in place and DB? any information and timeframe would be nice

Hopefully before Dec. 25th when everyone is gonna get a new roku!
  • We are also very interested in this as well. Hopefully it's available soon as we have several subscription channels we want to launch and need to charge for access. It would be great if we don't have to build our own billing system as we know this won't be an easy undertaking.

I noticed that this was posted back in Nov. Any new updates on when this will be available for developers?
  • Please contact me if you would like to investigate launching your channel in the very near future as a Roku-billed paid channel (either one-time or via subscription).
