Sprite animation of snowflakes falling in a chilly winter scene

I'm trying to make a sample project with the following content:
Displays a full screen image of winter.
And I have a list of image frames of falling snowflakes.

I want to display image frames of these snowflakes on top of another winter image.

I have read through the article here, but unfortunately its content seems to be too old, so the download links in the article can no longer be downloaded.
