Showing a dialog in a scene graph

Are there any examples of using dialogs with the scene graph? I tried using the normal dialog workflow, but that covered the screen with the old style page. I see in the docs something about creating a dialog and setting it on the "dialog" attribute of a scene, but that didn't seem to do anything.
