PanelSet - override navigation?

Greetings -
Anyone know if there's a way to programmatically force a panelset to slide back and remove it's last panel? 
The doc says never use removeChild to do this; https://sdkdocs.roku.com/display/sdkdoc/PanelSet
I wonder if there is a way, short of sending a fake left keypress ?
It seems that PosterGrid jumpToItem does not work if the PosterGrid is in the PanelSet offscreen to the left...?
