The biggest problem with broadcasting a live HLS stream and getting it to play smoothly is uploading your segments to the CDN in a timely manner.... This is where I would start debugging.
There is a stream monitoring script you can copy out of the encoding guide to help you monitor the uploading of your HLS variant stream segments.
