Gridscreen poster PNG transparency?

In the movie portrait type layout that netflix uses, the posters are rectangles. You can load in PNG images for the poster graphics on a grid screen, however, transparency shows up as black. Is there any way to support true transparency for this scenario?

    Transparency on PNGs used to work with the grid screen prior to 2.9 (maybe 2.8 ). I reported it broken awhile back, but never received a response. I eventually just updated my graphics/icons to work with a black background.
