When you're entering a reply, on the toolbar, just above where you enter the message text, the leftmost icon (left of the bold/italic/underline, etc) that looks like 3 horizontal white lines on a black background, allows you to enter markup directly. I find that a lot easier to use for quoting, entering links, etc. than trying to use the graphical interface, which often seems to make stuff into quotes when you think you're done quoting, or make the text after a link part of the link.
