Been snooping for a long while...
regarding pops, clicks, Chirps, level changes and audio distortion... I can provide the following...
Have 4 Roku's.... an old 3 (5000) that I'm about to give my Neighbor.... that resided on both a Samsung 4K (RU8000 via Panasonic RX-V479) and has resided on a Sony 2K set...
and 3x Different 4K ULTRA's:
a 4K Ultra-LT that I've had for a year or so... nightly viewer.... This has been on a Samsung 4K set (RU8000, via Panasonic RX-V479 & HDCP V2.2 splitter), and has also resided on a Visio 2K set...
a 4K Ultra 2023, that has a 32GB SD Mode 10 card installed.... 4 months ago, on a Sony 2K set...
and a 4K Ultra 2024 bought 2 months ago, on a Samsung 4K set (RU8000 via Panasonic RX-V479 & HDCP V2.2 splitter )
Regarding Pops, Clicks, Chirps, level changes and audio Distortion (that can be silenced by simply backing up and playing again!! )......
Never seen or Heard anything unusual on the V3 Roku... on any set...
I have heard Pops, Clicks, and audio distortion on Ultra 2023 with 32GB Mode 10 SD Card... The Posted resets have not helped.... When distortion occurs, it continues until you stop and restart program. Chirps are 1-2 video frames in length, are consistent in sound: all sound identical and are very, very random in nature. After the Chirp normal program audio continues....
I have NOT heard Pops, Clicks, or audio distortion on 4K Ultra 2024.... Nor 4K Ultra-LT
Now: Same ISP, Zito (YUUCK!) is feeding ALL, with CAT 6 ethernet cabling (NOT WIFI!) on GB ethernet infrastructure... Speed test on all is far greater than needed for 4K, but I'm only hearing issues at 2K, so that uses less bandwidth... and only 4K 2023 Ultra with SD Card is acting up, So it's obviously not a bandwidth or ISP issue!
Now the units have been tested WITH & WITHOUT a HDCP V2.2 Splitter, and results are the same.... So this is NOT an HDCP Issue! It's not an HDMI Cable issue either.... swapped between systems... Same..
Now when distortion starts, it persists, but can easily be fixed..... Just back it up 10 seconds and play again... The Starting of playback fixes it...
So at present, I'm un-certain if the issue is due to ONE Model Roku (2023 Ultra) or Memory card (I have tried 2x different High Speed SD Cards), or _______..
Now any time I refer to Samsung 4K RU8000, the Roku in question (3 of the 4 Roku's) They are connected to a PANASONIC RX-V479 and Panasonic Feeds Samsung RU8000, with or without a HDCP V2.2 Splitter to confirm to confirm this issue has NOTHING to do with HDCP V2.2 issues.... It doesn't....
On 2023 Ultra with 32GB Card: I switched to Stereo from Dolby in Roku... Same isssue, Stereo or Dolby audio settings. On Sony changed from Dolby to PCM in audio settings... Did not change distortion issues.... But, Going back 10 seconds and playing again fixes it. Every Time!
They are all at latest firmware, and yes, the supposed fixes have been applied....
Because I can fix it by backing up and playing again, Fixes don't fix it, and when distortion or chips occur, it only does in in the middle of a scene, not at a scene change, it must be something within the stream, as opposed to a 'burp' as one playback file is switched to another....
Gut feeling tells me: its being sent.... !!
