YouTube Won't Display 4:3 Video Correctly On Roku Express+
On my Roku Express+ 2018 model YouTube won't display 4:3 videos correctly when hooked up through composite and on a 4:3 setting.
This is the last model Roku that came out with composite video output. When hooked up to the composite input on my older CRT television the 4:3 videos do not fill the screen.
I have the Roku set to 4:3 TV in the settings but all I get on YouTube is a small 4:3 image in the middle of my screen with black bars on the top, bottom, left and right.
Basically YouTube is treating the 4:3 video as if it's on a 16:9 setting and putting it in a 16:9 frame, then putting the sidebars like you'll normally get on 4:3 video on a widescreen display.
4:3 displays properly when I stream my 4:3 TV episodes on Plex through my Roku on the 4:3 setting, so this appears to be a YouTube issue only.
Is there anyway to fix this? I have a feeling Roku will blame this on YouTube and YouTube will turn around and blame Roku because a lot of times when an issue like this comes up nobody wants to take responsibility.
I also have an HDMI input on my older 4:3 HDTV but when I use this there is no 4:3 setting on the Roku for HDMI. Everything gets forced into a 16:9 letterboxing frame. Roku should also add an option for 4:3 for all devices and bring back the composite output as well.
I don't know why everything must be limited to HDMI and 16:9 settings when there are still people with older TVs that want to use them.
