YouTube TV appearance problem

Over the last 4-6 wks when I’m in the YouTube TV menu, abive and below where I am scrolling is blurred and pixilated.  This is seemingly the only channel it happens on and does not clear if I do a system reset.  When this happens it seems somewhat slower in response, otherwise not a problem.  My reason for questioning is my curiousity if others are also experiencing this and if it could be a sign of other problems to come.

  • Hi EreS,

Thanks for the first post to the Roku Community!

Did you restart your Roku device before re-installing the channel? That step is crucial when performing troubleshooting.

If you haven't tried the suggested order (remove restart re-install), we would recommend giving it a shot once again.

We also suggest restarting from the Settings menu by navigating to Settings System Power (If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.) > System restart.

Please let us know how it works this time, and we'll continue assisting you from there.

    All the best,
    Chel

  • I'm having the same issue but really only noticeable on sporting events, particularly NFL and NCAA football games. I also posted this today but I plugged in a Google chromecast into my Roku tv and the resolution on the Youtube.TV app, on Chromecast, is much better. Makes me wondering if Google is throttling non-google streamers. I also have Google fiber so internet speed is not an issue.

I thought it must be just me.  I am having the exact problem with even seeing the menu.  It seems to happen more at night and when I am watching games and switching from one game to the other.  Sometimes I cannot even see what I am clicking on, and it doesn't even give me a choice to resume at the point I left.  I have called my cable company and complained and had them run numerous test.  It is not my cable.  The three tvs upstairs are all having this problem with Roku stick.  I have two tvs downstairs on firestick that are not having this problem.  I finally gave in and ordered a firestick on one of these that was the worst.  It was in my bedroom.  I see perfect on firestick.  I really like the Roku stick better, but it is obvious something is going on.  I can see all my other apps perfect.  It is just on youtube with Roku stick.  I love sports, and tournaments are coming up soon.  I do not want to have to deal with this.  It is obvious it is a problem that needs solving wtih Roku stick.

It seems to come in and out of clarity and it's happening on other TVs in the house as well. I've tried changing the resolution on the TV, removing the app, restarting the TV using the settings/power/restart and have rebooted my Google Fiber connection although I don't seem to have any issues with resolution on other apps or even programs within Youtube.tv. It just seems to impact sports as far as I can tell.

    Hi Fishface,

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Roku Community!

Have you tried removing YouTube TV and then reinstalling it? In some cases, that resolves the issue. Make sure you restart your Roku device before adding the channel back in to ensure the process is successful. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Remove the channel: Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press the Star button to open the options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
      • Note: If you remove a subscription channel billed to your Roku account, you must cancel the subscription before seeing the Remove Channel option. For help identifying this type of subscription channel, read the detailed article about removing a channel.
    2. Restart your Roku device: If reaching the power cord to unplug your Roku device is inconvenient, you can restart the device from the settings menu. Go to Settings > System > PowerSystem Restart > Restart(If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step).
    3. Reinstall the channel: After your Roku device restarts, visit the Roku Channel Store and add the channel again.
      • Note: If you add a subscription channel billed to your Roku account, you must re-subscribe.

Please let us know if there's any difference after.

    All the best,

    Chel

        Hi Kdaz,

        Thanks for letting us know.

As per what the previous moderator provided, have you tried performing a channel reboot by removing, restarting, and adding the channel? Also, during playback on YouTube TV, please click on the star button on your remote for additional picture settings provided by the app. You can also manage the display by going to the settings and choosing your resolution.

Please let us know what you find out.

        Sincerely,
        Janaddee

  • Same problem. Removed the app and reinstalled YouTubeTV and saw no difference. Finally I did a factory reset on the whole Roku and reinstalled all apps including YouTubeTV and still experienced the same pixelation problem when browsing the menu.

Does anyone at Roku actually read these forums?

      • A specific movie or TV show (season and episode) where the issue occurs.
      • Have you clicked on the star button during playback to check for additional picture settings besides adjusting the display resolution through the Roku settings?

I have the same issue on my Roku streambar when using YouTubeTV. The app works fine when first started but deteriorates as I surf through the YT menu. The pixelation is only a problem when navigating the menu; when a video stream is selected it is clear. When you return to the menu from a video, it pixelates and will not render the menu graphics properly and gets progressively worse until I can no longer select anything from the menu. I can clear the problem by exiting YouTubeTV and restarting the app; no need to restart the device. It only happens with YouTubeTV. It seems like the device memory is overrun trying to render YouTubeTV graphics and when I exit the app it flushes memory and works again when restarted. I would say that the YouTubeTV app might have a memory leak as it’s only a problem with this app. I think we’re due for a software update.

  • I am having the exact same problem with the entire screen pixelating while navigating. Hard to even find a channel because you can’t see the menus through the pixelation. I just got Youtube tv a couple days ago for the first time. I have heard so many good things about it. What a disappointment. All other roku apps work flawlessly and have for years. I will not be keeping Youtube tv if this keeps up!

I had not thought about it, but my Roku works fine on other apps besides Youtube tv.  My Youtube tv works fine where I was having the same problems with Youtube tv as you by changing to a Firestick.  It seems to be some type of interaction between Roku and Youtube tv.  They are both fine if they are not used together.  Roku does not seem like they are addressing the issue at all.  I have three tv's doing it, but now I only have two because I changed one to a Firestick a few weeks ago, and the issue is now gone on that tv.  I thought I had rather buy a Firestick than get rid of Youtube tv.  Good luck!

I’m having the same exact issue. Started about a week ago and I’ve had no changes in software, hardware or internet service. It’s only YTTV app on Roku.  Hopefully someone is working on it.
