YouTube playback speed

Would you please consider adding the playback speed feature to the YouTube channel. Like it is on the Android mobile version of YouTube. Thank you, Chris

Me too.  But whether they do or not, they're the only ones that can do anything about it.

Roku doesn’t bother to update their software often enough. On my 4200x Roku 3 there’s been no update since June.

      software version 10.0.0, build:4209

Where do you take it to Google Youtube?  Where do you report it?

Problem started 3 days ago.   Will stop using Youtube on Roku if this continues as some episodes are way to slow.

Seems like the prevailing thought is that this has to be enabled by the app.  But I'm not sure that is the case.  Why couldn't there be a master setting, similar to the hidden bitrate menu, that sets the playback speed on all video at 1.25, 1.5, 1.75x, etc?  If that were the case, it would be transparent to the apps, and just do it at the system level.

I can play in 2x in LG TVs, Android, Windows, Amazon Fire But not in Roku. It's easy for Roku to say that is a problem from Google, but I will not buy any other Roku products because ONLY them does not deliver the experience I expect.

FYI, the YT app for 4K/HDR-capable Rokus is now Speed enabled (.25x to 2X), so if you have a 4K/HDR model you should be able to use the Speed setting.

      That makes too much sense.

Same problem. Used to work fine for years. Now I no longer have a You Tube setting option to change playback speed at all. I removed the app and reinstalled (latest version 2.22 build 105005058) and no joy. Works fine on my Android Smartphone You Tube App. Seems to be related only to ROKU's new You Tube channel app.

Based on comments It looks like Roku is trying to blame You Tube.

      Hello JimMelbFL

We're sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing.

Did you restart your Roku device before re-installing the channel? That step is crucial when performing the troubleshooting. If you haven't tried the suggested order (remove > restart > reinstall), we would recommend giving it a shot once again. We also suggest doing the restart from the Settings menu by navigating to Settings > System > Power (If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.) > System restart.

Let us know if there's any difference after.

      All the best,
      Kariza

Yes. I tried multiple times - physical power off, Reinstall etc.

Many of the folks over at reddit who are seeing the same thing believe that this may be a deliberate attempt by YouTube to force standard speed on all Roku users (smartphone apps seem so far unaffected) to listen at regular speed so they can generate maximum user-airtime for advert revenue.
