Youtube app shows QR code then black screen

Figured I'd bring this up again.  I followed an older thread about this and thought I'd found a fix.  I posted that here:
Black screen on Youtube app | Roku Community

The above fix only works temporarily.  I've gone through these steps multiple times, but the problem keeps coming back.

Here's what happens step by step:

1. Watching a youtube video

2. An add comes on

3. At the end of many ads, the "video" part of the screen shrinks to make space on the screen for a QR code.

4. At that point, the rest of the video part of the add turns to black

5. Once my video starts back up after the add, I get sound, but the screen is black

6. Exiting out to the youtube video and clicking on it again, gets the video working again, but then you have to fast-forward to the point in the video where you left off.

Please add to this thread if this is happening to you!

  • Felipe, is there a way for you to push these ongoing problems up the chain, so they don't keep getting stuck in the level 1 fix phase?  I'm starting to think about a new TV, and since I use Youtube a lot, this issue is a pretty big deal breaker for buying this brand again.

    Hi Secondstory

It appears that you're running into a black screen issue while streaming on the YouTube app. To help us narrow things down, can you confirm whether this issue was resolved earlier or if it's still ongoing? Also, have you tried to check your Wi-Fi Connection?

In the meantime, try removing and reinstalling the app.

    1. Remove the App: Navigate to the YouTube app on your Roku home screen, press the Star button on your remote, and select Remove channel.
    2. Reinstall the app: Go to the Roku Streaming Store, search for YouTube, and reinstall the app.

Let us know when you can!

Hi Felipe.  If you search for "Youtube black screen" on this forum, you'll see that this issue has been ongoing for literally years.  Yes we've uninstalled and reinstalled the app.  Yes, we've checked our wifi connections. We've gone into the settings and made certain tweaks and turned the tv off and on again.  We've done all the boilerplate things that have been suggested over the years.

Please see this link to see just one other thread on the topic:

IF ANYONE HERE HAS COME UP WITH SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY WORKS, PLEASE POST IT HERE, THANKS!

        Thanks for replying, !

We'd like to dig into this more. When you get a chance, could you send over the details we asked for below so we can keep things moving?

        • Device Details: Include the model, serial number, device ID, and software version. You can find this by going to Settings > System > About.
        • Tracker ID: When the issue occurs, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times
        • App Build Version: Highlight the channel on your Home screen and press the star () button* to view the build version.
        • A photo would be a great help.

Hoping to hear from you soon!
